CALICO
GHOST TOWN

Near the entrance to Maggie's Mine, you can ride a narrow-gauge railcar. It's a short ride around the top of a mountain, but you can spot small cave-like openings in the mountain faces which are front doors to the old miner's homes. I thought the train ride would be longer, so I was a little dissappointed. For $2.50, we should have gotten to go around twice!
Here's one of the miner's homes built into the side
of the mountain.
In the desert heat, the cave-like interior must
have felt wonderfully cool to the miners.
Here's another miner's shack. Notice the colorful
dirt everywhere -
I never thought that dirt could have so many colors!
It was quite a surprise.
